Our Purpose

Our goal is to respond to a recognized and growing need for services for victims and survivors of family violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and for persons facing other crises.

We have recently changed our name. SAFE of Columbia County was originally named Columbia County Women's Resource Center. Our services are for everyone regardless of gender so we have revamped our name to reflect that we help anyone who needs our services.

SAFE stands for Support, Advocacy, Freedom and Empowerment. The agency meets the needs of everyone affected by domestic and sexual violence, including intimate partner violence, rape, stalking, elder abuse, childhood abuse, gender-based harassment and unwanted sexual advances, etc. We provide support for survivors and prevention education in our community.

SAFE has been known as Columbia County Women's Resource Center and has been serving Columbia County since 1979. In 2013, we changed our name because domestic and sexual violence are not only "women's issues." Domestic and Sexual Violence affect the entire community in many ways, and many of the people served by SAFE are men and boys. The new name better illustrates the agency’s mission, to empower our community to live safe, healthy lives free from abuse and is more specific about the kinds of services we provide and the empowerment model we use in our services.
